How it started

LoudLit.org was born from a tiny idea.

If we believe our listening vocabulary is greater than our reading vocabulary, why not combine text and audio to increase the impact of audio books.

While this idea is the seed of the project, what we since found out is that audio books are the best coping mechanism for people who are dyslexics. And dyslexia is far more common than is popularly believed.

Yale researcher Sally Shaywitz believes that around twenty percent of the population are effected by dyslexia; dyslexics, people whose reading fluency is below what their intelligence would predict, benefit greatly from audio books. Dyslexics also build a huge sight vocabulary as a coping mechanism, as they don't process text phonetically.

By presenting text and audio together, LoudLit.org hopes to give access to great ideas, and help people find out about dyslexia.

Why does LoudLit.org need a blog?

As we expand our listing, trying to make a difference, we are hoping to connect with our users.

Some burning questions are:

  • Does the text make a difference?
  • What titles should we consider
  • How are you listening to the books?
  • How might you help?
  • How can we improve?
Thanks for your support.
